WCT Announces Leadership Excellence Award Recipients

Techsploration Recognized with National Award for Empowering Girls in STEM

HALIFAX, March 9, 2018 – Techsploration, a Nova Scotia-based non-profit, has been named by Women in Communications and Technology (WCT) as the recipient of their 2018 Leadership Excellence Award for Empowerment. This national award honours an individual, program, organization, or company that demonstrates success in empowering girls to continue their participation and education in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

“We are absolutely thrilled to be honoured with the WCT Leadership Excellence Award for Empowerment! Since 1998, our small, grassroots organization has been propelled by the idea that knowledge empowers potential. This award is a testament to the impact of this vision, as well as the passion and dedication of our community of staff, sponsors, role models, teachers, volunteers, and alumnae, who work together to encourage young women to explore STEM and trades-related careers,” says Arylene Reycraft, Executive Director, Techsploration.

According to WCT, highlighting the achievements of women who have made significant contributions to the digital economy and recognizing the work of those (both individuals and organizations) who champion diversity in the workplace are key strategies for their national association.

“Techsploration’s unique mentorship program demonstrates the power of role models to help girls choose a career that’s right for them,” says Joanne Stanley, Executive Director, WCT. “We are thrilled to recognize this successful model to encourage more girls into science, trades and technology.”

WCT’s Leadership Excellence Awards will be presented at the WCT Annual Awards Gala on April 16, 2018 at Ottawa’s Fairmont Chateau Laurier, an event that draws over 400 high-profile public and private sector leaders from across Canada.
