Ashley Bacon, P.Eng

Meet Ashley Bacon from Falmouth, Nova Scotia!

She lives on a small hobby farm with her husband and kids. They raise cows, chickens, ponies and a horse, and grow much of their own food. When she’s not outside tending to the animals, she and her husband are usually renovating their century farmhouse! She is an avid reader, a lifelong ringette player, and a community volunteer, coaching soccer in the summer and hockey in the winter.

She attended Central Kings Rural High School and participated in Techsploration in 2003-2004. Since she was already interested in science and math, she was encouraged by her 9th-grade teacher to participate in Techsploration! Through this opportunity, she connected with other young women passionate about STEM and explored exciting possibilities that helped shape her academic path.

She earned her Bachelor of Engineering in Mineral Resources from Dalhousie University and holds her Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation. Now she works as an Asset manager for power generation facilities in deregulated electricity markets. She loves daily problem-solving and working with a great team!

She is passionate about supporting young women in STEM and believes strongly in keeping your options open. Even if you’re unsure of your path, choosing courses that give you flexibility can open unexpected doors. She also believes that representation matters, seeing women from diverse backgrounds in STEM and skilled trades helps young people believe that those paths are possible for them too: “You have to see it to believe it.”
